Since my childhood, I love Moong Dal Dahi Vada which are specially prepared by Mother (Maa), specially in festivals like Holi and Diwali. Oats and Green Moong Dal Dahi Vada Recipe is one such recipe for people who craving to eat something healthy but yet nutritious. Dahi vada has very distinct taste unlike the normal dahi vada that we have with urad dal. Instead deep frying the vada, here at Archana's kitchen we always make it healthy by cooking them in the Kuzhi paniyaram pan.
Steps to make Moong Dal Dahi Vada:
- Rinse and soak moong dal in water for 6 hours or overnight.
- Drain and discard all water from dal and grind it into a fine paste.
- Transfer it to a large bowl and beat the batter until it turns light, about 4-5 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium flame.
- When oil is medium hot, take a medium lemon sized portion of batter in between your fingers or a spoon and gently drop it into the oil.
- Drop 4-5 portions at a time.
- Deep-fry them on medium heat until light golden brown and crispy.
- Take them out from oil and transfer into tissue paper to soak extra oil.
- Heat water in a big utensil and add salt.
- Soak vadas in this water for about 30-40 minutes.
- Takeout them out from water and press gently between your palms and remove excess water.
- Transfer them to serving plate.
- Beat curd with sugar and salt from hand beater until smooth.
- Pour generous amount of curd evenly over vadas until they fully covered.
- Top it with sweet Tamarind chutney, tomato sauce and green chutney.
- Sprinkle red chilli powder, roasted cumin powder and chaat masala powder.
- Tasty and light moong dal dahi vada is ready.
Moong dal vada, simply the best and so addicting. These are golden crispy from outside and soft, spongy, fluffy from inside. Plus these Gujarati dalwada are easy to make at home and requires only a handful of ingredients. Dahi Vadas are lentil dumplings topped with a spicy savory yogurt and tamarind chutney. These are great as a side dish for a formal dinner or served as a chaat.
