The ingredients needed to make Senaikizhangu Poriyal / Yam Fry:
  1. Take 1/2 kg Senaikizhangu / Elephant Yam
  2. Make ready 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  3. Make ready 1 small piece of Tamarind
  4. Make ready Salt -as per taste
  5. Make ready 2 tsp Oil
  6. Make ready 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  7. Take 1/2 tsp Urad Dal
  8. Make ready 1 Medium Size Onion chopped
  9. Take Curry leaves few
  10. Prepare 4 Green chillies
  11. Prepare Coriander leaves few
  12. Take 1 tbsp Grated Coconut
  13. Take Coconut oil -as required
  14. Prepare Water -as required

Yam tawa fry preparation: First peel off the skin of the yam and wash it. Senaikizhangu(Yam) Fry is one my most favourite dish. If not properly cooked, it may cause itchiness in our tongue. It is a great combination for any variety rices.

Instructions to make Senaikizhangu Poriyal / Yam Fry:
  1. Apply some Coconut oil in your hand. Peel off the yam skin and cut into small pieces. And put those pieces in a water bowl. Wash it twice in tap water.
  2. Place a pressure cooker in the stove. Switch on the flame and add those yam pieces, some water, turmeric powder, tamarind and salt. Mix well. Cover and cook for 2 whistles.
  3. Once the pressure goes off. Open the lid, drain the water and take out the tamarind piece.
  4. Place a kadai in the stove. Switch on the flame. Add oil.
  5. Once oil gets heat, add mustard seeds and urad dal. Fry it.
  6. Then add onions, curry leaves and green chillies. Saute till onions becomes translucent.
  7. Add the cooked yam pieces and saute well for 3 mins in medium flame.
  8. At last add grated coconut and coriander leaves. Saute for a minute and switch off the flame.
  9. Now it's ready to serve. Serve as a Sidedish for your lunch.
