  2. Prepare 1 . Coconut - 1/4 cup
  3. Prepare 2 . Cumin seeds - 1 tsp

  14. Get 6 . Yam - 1/4 cup cut into squares
  15. Get 7 . Brinjal - 2
  16. Make ready 8 . Drumstick - 1
  17. Prepare 9 . Mustard - 1/2 tsp
  18. Get 10 . Salt - as needed
  19. Make ready 11 . Gingelly oil - 2 tbsp
  20. Take 12 . Coriander leaves - to garnish

The main prep work for this curry is the theeyal masala and here is how to do it. Add in the coriander seeds, dried red chillies and fresh shredded coconut. Theeyal is a delicious Kerala dish. It is good with steamed rice.

Instructions to make Theeyal:
  1. Method: - - 1. Soak tamarind in warm water minimum 20 min. Squeeze the juice and keep aside. - - 2.Boil water and add yam and drumstick and cook till done 75% - - 3. Dry roast and grind all the ingredients into smooth paste by adding little amount of water under the topic "To Grind". Keep this aside. - - 4. Now heat 2 tbsp of gingelly oil in kadai add mustard. Once it temper add curry leaves and onion. - - 5. Once onion done add brinjal and cook half.
    1. Now add the ground paste saute a bit. Now add the tamarind juice, salt and water. Bring this to boil. Once it starts to boil add yam and drumstick. Close and cook for 5 minutes. - - 7. Open the lid now and cook untill gravy get thicker. - - 8. Adjust salt and garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice and papad.

Theeyal is made from a spice mixture consisting of roasted coconut, coriander seeds, dried red chili and fenugreek. Theeyal is one of the traditional south Indian recipe. Very delicious side dish for putt, rice etc. Roasted coconut mixture is the main ingredient in this recipe. It is quite similar to Sambar, another popular South Indian dish.
