The ingredients needed to make Agar agar / China grass:
- Get 50 gram agar agar
- Get 1/2 litre water
- Get 2-3 spoon rose syrup
- Prepare 2-3 spoon nannari sharbat
It is sold as flakes, powder, bars, and strands. It is also known as China glass, China grass, China isinglass, Japanese kanten, Japanese gelatin, and dai choy goh, and is used in certain Japanese dessert recipes. China grass or Agar Agar or Kanten is a sea weed and completely vegetarian. It gives a smooth, glossy finish and many chefs prefer to use it over gelatin.
Steps to make Agar agar / China grass:
- Soak agar agar for few minutes and remove from water
- Boil half litre water and add agar agar and keep stirring till it dissolves.
- Take 2 bowls and add rose syrup in one bowl and nannari sharbath in another bowl.ass the boiled agar agar to each bowl
- Take a mould add nannari sharbath to half of the mould and make it cool and set the agar agar as soon as possible.
- After it sets quickly,add rose syrup mixed agar agar and keep in fridge to set and serve cool.
China grass, if used properly sets easily at room temperature. It is obtained from various seaweeds, has no aroma and has a neutral taste. It is used to make jellies and, because of it's neutral taste, can be flavoured with any essence. China grass well known as agar agar is a type of gelatin extracted from Sea weed. It is called as "Kadal paasi" in Tamil.
